Who we are in God’s eyes
It says many times in God’s Word that our Heavenly Father loves us very deeply. It says that he knows our every thought and how many hairs are on our heads. It also says that we are fully accepted by Christ and that includes our body and features. Psalm 139:14 says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Ephesians 2:10 says that we are God’s masterpiece! When you are in a cycle of hating your body, you are telling God you despise His design.
If we obsess over our body image above God, then it can become a very toxic idol. Anything that replaces God is an idol. Matthew 6:24 says that we can not love one thing and God at the same time. You will either hate one and then love the other. So what will we love more? Our God who will never stop loving us or our idol of a perfect body that will never make us happy?
God always looks beyond our appearance and loves and cares more about our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7). If this is what God does, be kind to your body and value your heart and mind over body standards that you may put on yourself. Our weight and emotions WILL fluctuate in life but you know what stays the same? Who we are in Christ will always stay the same! We will forever be loved by our Father. Let us love and see ourselves as Christ does!
How God changes the way we see ourselves
Often, if we are insecure or prideful, we can become jealous or give others discouraging comments to boost our ego. But we have to remember that God made us all differently for HIS good. And this is true not only in our appearances but also in our personality, strengths, talents, etc. God says that in His eyes our differences are SO beautiful. All body types, skin colors, hair textures, shapes of body parts, fashion or makeup styles, and personality are all so beautiful in His eyes. Learn to love your unique self and make sure and let others know that they are beautiful as well.
Your body carries you through so much. So be grateful for your body no matter what it looks like. Your weight never defines your worth. Your worth should come from God. Your weight will change but the way God loves you will NEVER change. The world can be a discouraging place so let's build others up and never down.
At the core of beauty what makes us beautiful is not our outward appearance but our hearts and our service to God and to others! If our heart is ugly we can be ugly to others. This is not beautiful or attractive to God and others. Let us take care of our hearts so that we can be more kind to others, our minds, and our body. This will create a ripple effect where we are satisfied with who we are in Christ and will be able to love ourselves for where we are at.
